Lindsay introduced Brenda, The District Youth Team Leader who he had invited along to talk about her duties and ideas.
Brenda highlighted some of her past involvement with Rotary and that she took over from Margaret Marquis last year and is continuing in her role for next year. She said that, as we all know, this has been a very different and challenging year and she has really felt that it has been difficult for her to contribute.
She did however remind us of the huge benefits to youths in continuing and in some instances of re-starting youth activities. It helps build their confidence, creates opportunities and helps them develop as young adults. She talked about the many activities such as Young Musician, Young Chef, Rotakids (who can sometimes come up with great ideas) etc. that sadly had to be abandoned due to the Pandemic. She did however praise the success of the virtual RYLA which even attracted a youth from Malawi !
Brenda was delighted that some of the “non contact” competitions, such as Young Artist, Writer and Photographer had been run by some clubs and were very well supported. She also said that she was looking at possible new activities such as Young Film maker, Young Environmentalist and Young Citizen, but would contact clubs when these thoughts have crystalized.
Following on from the question and answer session Mike Rowe gave his usual eloquent VOT.
