Percy welcome our speakers Noel Jordan and Molly Gorman from Imaginate. Noel is the director of the Edinburgh International Children’s festival. Imaginate works with Communities and schools providing opportunities for development.
Noel grew up in Australia. His family were keen on sport particularly Australian Rules Football. Noel was not interested in sport. His great interest was in the arts and theatre. In high school he became interested in drama.
Later he came to Edinburgh and joined Imaginate. He believes the arts make young people better at many things. He organised the ‘Wee Night Out’ for children from Craigmillar. They go to plays at the Edinburgh International Children’s festival. The children thoroughly enjoy these. This has been running for three years now but, owing to the Corona virus, not this year.
Molly thanked the club for its support for the boat trip on the Union canal for the children from Canal View Primary School. Many of the children had never been on a boat before let alone on the canal. They were so thrilled by the trip that they wrote and performed a song about it. Molly installed a link for club members to hear it.
Imaginate currently have a project for deprived children from six schools to receive some arts education.
Molly is leaving Imaginate shortly to take up a different post.
The club’s vote of thanks was given by Ken Lindsay
