Report from Rotarian Roy Stirrat

"It was a well organised evening, at an hotel that was a little difficult to find on the edge of Dumfries. Two local young Scottish country dancers, each with an amazing record already of international awards, entertained before the meal. DG Allan gave an entertaining and as usual a somewhat self-deprecating anecdotal address. All of us were aware, however, of what a wonderful conclusion it was to his immensely energetic, changeful and successful year as the leader of Rotarians in Southern Scotland.

Mary and he were pleased that Currie Balerno were represented at the handover by Walter Hallyburton, Lindsay Craig, and Jan and Roy Stirrat. We all felt it was a fitting conclusion to Allan's DG year which he recognised had been much supported throughout by his fellow Club Members.

Keith Best then took over as DG and outlined his ambitions for the next year, as well as thanking and presenting his support team.
The meeting finished just before 11pm. It was probably longer than planned as both past and present DGs felt compelled to explain their actions and intentions, as well as to ensure that proper thanks were given to all involved in making the District 1020 club support team a continuing success.

Allan has undoubtedly raised the profile of Rotary in District 1020. He has shown by his immense range of actions locally and internationally, his care for others and his friendly all-inclusive style that he has been a wonderful District Governor. Our Club can be justly proud of all that he has achieved. We thank him and Mary for devoting so much time, thought and effort in taking on this onerous leadership role - and now trust that they both can relax somewhat. However, I have no doubt that Allan will continue to be involved and initiating in various Rotary projects, as well as remaining involved with Rotary GB&I administration.

The attendance of Walter Hallyburton (DG in 1994-5), allowed the taking of a historic photograph of Currie Balerno's two Rotarians who have now acted as leaders of Rotary International in Southern Scotland."
