Bromley Borough Rotary Club delivers a joyful and inclusive Children’s Fun Day for local pupils with special educational needs
Bromley Borough Rotary Club is delighted to announce the success of this year’s Rotary Children’s Fun Day, held on Wednesday 10 June, which brought excitement, discovery and inclusive fun to children with complex needs from a local specialist school.
The Club designed the day to ensure that every child, regardless of mobility, sensory needs or medical requirements, could take part in an experience tailored to them. The school’s values of aspiration, resilience, creativity and belonging shaped the Club’s approach, ensuring that each pupil was supported.
A magical day out at Chessington
One group of pupils enjoyed a full, adventure‑filled day at Chessington World of Adventures, chosen for its accessibility, sensory‑friendly attractions and welcoming environment. For many families, days out of this kind can be difficult to arrange independently due to the specialist support required — making Rotary’s involvement especially meaningful.
Children experienced rides, animal encounters and interactive activities, supported throughout by staff and volunteers. Smiles, laughter and moments of confidence‑building were visible throughout the day.
Animal‑therapy fun for children unable to travel
To ensure no child missed out, Bromley Borough Rotary also arranged an on‑site animal‑therapy experience delivered by Wild Science, a specialist SEN provider. Their trained facilitators introduced pupils to calm, well‑handled animals — from small mammals to reptiles and invertebrates — offering therapeutic interaction, sensory exploration and gentle confidence‑building.
Wild Science’s workshops are designed specifically for children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences and other complex needs. Sessions support emotional regulation, communication, anxiety reduction and self‑esteem, all within a safe, nurturing environment.
What the day meant for families
For many parents and carers, Rotary’s Children’s Fun Day represented far more than a trip out. It was:
A rare opportunity for their children to enjoy experiences that are often inaccessible or overwhelming without specialist support.
A moment of joy and normality, where families knew their children were fully included and understood.
A sign of community solidarity, showing that local organisations recognise and celebrate children with complex needs.
Feedback from families and staff described the day as uplifting, beautifully inclusive, and one of the highlights of the school year.
A uniquely inclusive Rotary event
What made Bromley Borough Rotary’s contribution special this year was its dual approach:
One event, two experiences — both equally meaningful.
By offering both an adventurous day out and a therapeutic on‑site alternative, the Club ensured that every child could participate in a way that suited their needs. This reflects Rotary’s wider commitment to inclusion, community partnership and supporting families who often face additional barriers.

"Our aim was simple — to make sure every child could enjoy a day designed just for them. Whether that was the excitement of Chessington or the calming, confidence‑building experience of animal therapy, we wanted every pupil to feel included, valued and celebrated. Seeing their joy on the day was truly inspiring."
