The Interliever Youth Trust
Interliever, an activities centre in Scotland, was purchased by Woolwich Rotary Club with external support, to enable children to go on adventure holidays, especially those young people who otherwise would not be able to afford to go. For a number of years several London borough supported this endeavour by nominating and paying for children to attend.
Unfortunately, financial constraints caused the boroughs to cease sending children and it was no longer viable for the Rotary Club to keep the Lodge. It was sold, and the money put into a Trust being administered by a small number of Woolwich Rotarians and being directly answerable to the Charity Commission.
There were strict rules on who could be awarded a grant. It was for young people up to the age of 19, who lived in the borough of Greenwich and was to be used for educational purposes, especially residential.
When Woolwich Rotary Club was closed, six members joined the Rotary Club of Bexley, with four of them also being Interliever Trustees.
The Trust rules were amended to cover young people in Bexley and Bexley Rotarians are encouraged to consult the Trustees if they think someone could benefit from the Trust. The final decision must rest with the Trustees as they are legally bound to the Charity Commission and must send their accounts each year.
Thus, the Interliever Youth Trust and the Rotary Club of Bexley are now working together for the benefit of young people.
