Shoeboxes arrived in Moldova

Island Rotary Clubs had another successful collection of Christmas shoeboxes for deprived children in Moldova

Sandown Rotarians had the task of coordinating the collection of Christmas shoeboxes from around the Isle of Wight and ensuring safe and timely delivery to the Rotary Club of Chisinau in Moldova. All island Rotary Clubs along with their supporting friends of Rotary were busy thoughout October and November collecting and delivering the brightly packaged shoeboxes to our depot in Sandown. Each shoebox was carefully checked to ensure we met the strict compliance for customs on entry to Moldova, after which our packing team would sort and pack by age group, label up the outer packing cases and complete the paperwork for each box in our special Christmas consignment. Thanks to everyone who ensured we were ready for our delivery lorry, and it was with great relief when we received news that the lorry had arrived in Chisinau and all was well!

The shoebox appeal is a long established activity for Rotary, and we were thrilled with the generous support from our Island community yet again which resulted in brightening up Christmas Day for nearly 2700 children.
