Initiated in 2011 and organised jointly with Ringwood School, the competition has expanded to this year receiving over 600 entries from 23 schools invited across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. This year’s theme was Perspective. The standard of entries was remarkably high.
Judging was carried out by a team drawn from the Rotary Club of Ringwood, Ringwood School Art Department, The Royal Photographic Society Digital Imaging Group, Ringwood Camera Club and the Arts University Bournemouth. A short list of some 50 images were selected within the four classes – Adult, Primary, Years 7-10 and Years 11-13.
The Winners in Student categories were, Hope Wilkins, St. Marks C of E Junior School (Primary), Jacob Kilburn, Ringwood School (Y 7-10) and Keela Billington, Ringwood School (Y 11-13).
In 2022, Rotarian Michael Lingam-Willgoss, a founder member of the competition team and a major fund raiser died. In his memory the award for the overall Best in Show, the MLW Prize for the Young Photographer of the Year, was presented to Jacob Kilburn, Ringwood School (Y 7-10).
The Arts University Bournemouth Prize went to Adam Markham, Brockenhurst College (Y11-13) and was presented by Vanessa Collingridge, Course Leader Foundation.
