Mobile library provides 50,000 children with access to books in Uganda
The Rotary Clubs of Ringwood, Bournemouth, Parkstone, and Pool lead by the Rotary Club of Winchester have joined together with nine Rotary Clubs in Uganda to fund the purchase and equipping of a mobile library in Kasese, Uganda
Uganda is one of the poorest nations in the world and lacks
the educational resources that we take for granted. Education in Uganda is not financed centrally,
parents must pay for their children’s education.
The fifty schools in the Kasese area all lack access
to a library.
The mobile library is designed to operate four times a week - including Saturdays for non-school going children. The specially equipped van will convey a collection of educational materials, storybooks and early literacy materials into the local school communities in order for children and teenagers to have book reading access.
The sustainability of the project has been assured through the support of the relevant local authority in Uganda

The competition is in its twelfth year and has grown from one participating school to twenty four schools across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire participating in 2024. Let's make 2025 another record year!

On 3rd July we said a big ‘thank you’ to our outgoing President, Trevor Pogson, and ‘hello’ to our new President, Maddie Phillips. The Rotary Club of Ringwood was Chartered in 1947 so Maddie becomes our 77th President.
