An update to this page now includes the Certificate of Appreciation received by Alasdair on behalf of the Rotary Club of Braids in Edinburgh.

Certificate of Appreciation from Ukerewe

When Alasdair visited as part of the team repairing and refurbishing at this hospital, he was shocked at the fact that patients were sleeping on foam matresses still soiled by previous occupants of the beds.

Once the patient had been discharged, their mattress was put out into the sun to dry before being put back on the bed for the next patient. Hygiene left much to be desired.

Alasdair started a project, supported by a number of clubs and a grant from Rotary International to buy modern mattresses that could be wiped clean and disinfected, so improving hygiene and patient care significantly. They arrived safely and below you can see them on the loading bay ready to go to the hospital.
