Family & Friends Evening at Forest Park Hotel

Our speaker Thomas Clarke, Head Gardener at Exbury Gardens


Tom will be talking about the history of Exbury and some of the challenges involved in managing a historic woodland garden. 

He was lucky enough to study a apprenticeship with the National Trust at Calke Abbey helping to restore a Victorian walled garden, as a school leaver.  Since then he has worked in some fantastic historic gardens mostly in Cornwall.  His main interest is Rhododendrons, Camellias and Magnolias. For the last 10 years he has been Head Gardener at Exbury Gardens. Created just over 100 years ago in the golden age of woodland gardening Exbury spans over 200 acres in the New Forest and is home to one of the greatest woody plant collections in the UK. He has now spent 35 years as a professional gardener and he can’t imagine doing anything thing else for a living.
