Honeypot House 25th Birthday Celebrations
On Wednesday 7th July, President Steve Timms, George and Ann Stevens and I were delighted to attend a celebration garden party in the grounds of Honeypot House to celebrate their 25th birthday. Luckily the rain held off and we were able to enjoy an alfresco lunch sitting under the magnificent timber pergola which the Club sponsored just prior to lockdown. We were able to meet other supporting organisations and members of staff and learnt about recent developments and the online support programmes that they have set up during lockdown.
After lunch guests were given a guided tour of the facilities and were able to see the newly refurbished suite of bedrooms which maintenance staff have worked on throughout lockdown. They are beautifully decorated in bright colours and are cosy and welcoming.
It was good to see the development which has taken place and to acknowledge their success over the years. They provide amazing support for their young carers, some of whom are as young as 5. It is very costly and labour intensive, however, and unlike some of our other sponsored charities, they are unable to raise an income themselves. They therefore depend on donations from organisations like ours. We will aim to support them whenever we can and certainly plan to run this year’s Christmas Shoe Box appeal which George Stevens and his helpers have managed so successfully in the past.
