POLIO AWARENESS DAY.

Sat, Feb 23rd 2019 at 12:00 am -

1000 CROCUSES WERE PLANTED AT THE LYNDHURST COMMUNITY CENTRE by John and Christine Brown and Steve and Rosemary Timms on 24 October 2018, beside the main entrance. On Polio Awareness Day, 23 February the crocuses, as instructed, were in full bloom.

PURPLE FOR POLIO.
At John Brown's initiative, Polio Awareness Day was marked by a splendid show of Crocuses outside Lyndhurst Community Centre. In October John and Christine Brown (a trustee of the Centre) assisted by Steve and Rosemary Timms planted 1000 bulbs in a plot to the left of the main entrance. They were slow to appear but nearer the day they really started to put on a good display and on the actual day, Saturday 23 February the sun came out in full and so did the flowers.  A few were a bit shy and stayed below the ground - maybe we will see them next year.

The photos show the sign which was on the fence of the plot and the monthly Community Centre magazine "What's On"  which had crocuses on the front cover and a full page explaining Rotary's efforts on the back.

Many thanks to the Community  Centre for the plot and the coverage and particulary to Alana who supplied the photo on the day.
