SAILAWAY TO GINS ON THE BEAULIEU RIVER.

Sun, Aug 23rd 2015 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

An annual event. This year we have three boats prepared and ready, including one from Lymington Town Sailing Club arranged by John Bloomfield. However the wonderful English summer played tricks on us. We still had an enjoyable social event though.

After careful  planning for the Sailaway the weather forecasts were dreadful with very strong winds and sheeting rain promised. The prospects of a stormy voyage and no pontoon party led to cancellation of all three boats from Hythe, Hamble and Lymington and we went to plan 'B' with the whole event in the Royal Southampton Yacht Club's base at Gins on the Beaulieu River.

The day started as predicted and the rain lashed down. At lunchtime the sun suddenly burst through, the rain stopped and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Gins with drinks on the clubhouse balcony and a splendid carvery.

Special thanks go Jack McPhie of Lymington Town Sailing Club, a friend of John Bloomfield's,  who had prepared his boat' Polar Bear' to assist with the sailaway. Like all of us he came by road in the end and was a welcome guest with his wife Sonia.
