What an amazing morning, 7 talented young people took part in the Rotary Young Chef, Guernsey heat at the Catering kitchen at The Guernsey Institute.
The 13 and 14 year old students attend Blanchelande College, Les Varendes, Les Voies and Ladies College. They had to prepare, cook and serve a main course and dessert for 2 people, on a budget of £18.
The menus included locally caught fish, meat, vegetarian and vegan options. The judges were Andrew Cantrell, OGH, Andy Coleman, and Riva, chef at the Institute. They had a very difficult task selecting the winner, as the competition was so close, with ½ mark between 1st and 2nd place. Congratulations to Samantha Browning from Ladies College who will be attending the District heat in Southampton on 21st February 2026.
Our thanks to Martin for organising and Brian for helping with administration and on the day. Also, thanks to Sally, Riva, Adeline and Julie from the Institute, who made the experience very enjoyable for the students. The Co-operative Society from providing vouchers for the food. All the staff from the Colleges, High School and school who helped prepare the students for the competition.
