Walk a Mile for Polio

Join Rotary Guernsey on Saturday 24 October for a friendly one mile walk through Saumarez Park, marking World Polio Day and helping raise awareness and funds to end polio worldwide.

One mile. One goal. A world without polio.

Rotary Guernsey invites islanders to join a special one mile walk through Saumarez Park on Saturday 24 October at 10.30am, marking World Polio Day and supporting the global campaign to eradicate polio.

Walk a Mile to End Polio Now is a simple, friendly community event. Everyone is welcome to join in – bring your family, friends and even your four-legged companions!

The walk will start outside Saumarez Park Café, follow a one mile route along the park's pathways and finish back at the café. Dogs are welcome on leads, and participants are invited to stay for coffee or refreshments afterwards, available to purchase from the café. Those bringing dogs will need to sit outside.

Why are we walking?

Polio is a highly infectious disease that can cause permanent paralysis, particularly in children. Thanks to decades of vaccination efforts, cases worldwide have fallen by more than 99.9%, but the disease has not yet been eradicated.

Rotary has been at the forefront of the worldwide campaign to end polio for more than 40 years. We are closer than ever to achieving a world where no child need fear this devastating disease.

Every donation makes a difference

There's no registration or entry fee, but donations to End Polio Now will be very welcome.

Thanks to the Gates Foundation's 2:1 match, every £1 donated becomes £3 towards the campaign – enough to fully protect a child against polio.

Donations can be made through our Rotary Guernsey Help End Polio Now fundraising page on Giving.gg, or on the day.

Come and join us!

Wear something RED or PURPLE if you can! We'd love to capture a colourful group photograph to share as part of the World Polio Day celebrations taking place around the globe.

Whether you come to walk, support the cause or simply enjoy being part of a community event, we'd love to see you.

One mile. One goal. A world without polio.
