Tree of Joy 'Switch On'

Thu, Nov 27th 2025 at 6:00 pm -

The start of the Christmas festivities. 'Switch On' will take place at about 6.00 p.m.

This year sees the 31st Rotary Club of Guernsey 'Tree of Joy’ campaign, which has now become an intrinsic part of Christmas for the local community. When the lights, that will soon adorn the mast on the roundabout, are illuminated, this heralds the start of Christmas for many people.

The lights on the mast will be illuminated at 1800hrs on the 27th of November. It goes without saying that providing the lights comes at a significant cost and the Rotary Club is extremely grateful to our sponsors, PWC, Butterfield and Savills, who cover this cost for the Club.

Every year, Rotary and our sponsors invite a deserving child to press the switch to turn on the lights. This year, we are delighted to announce that a young lady called Willow, who is 8yrs old and suffers from a rare inherited metabolic disease, will be performing this task. Willow needs weekly blood tests and has to eat a special diet.

Her mother say that she is very excited to be turning on the lights on the Tree of Joy. She is being supported by the Youth Commission.
