FORTY-NINE years after joining the Guernsey Press Co as a young sports reporter, Rob is still going strong at the paper, albeit in a part-time role.
Since retiring in 2022 after more than a quarter of a century as sports editor, Rob has concentrated solely on writing about Guernsey’s rich heritage.
It is now 18 years since he penned the first weekly LOOKback column and in that time he has written several hundred articles relating to Guernsey’s past.
Along the way, he has written and published several books, including the highly successful COAST volume which remains one if the biggest selling local books of the modern generation.
His other books include LOOKback, a ‘best of’ the weekly paper series, a history of the Muratti Vase football competition, The Big Book of Sport, which in size and weight certainly lived up to its title and, more recently, Guernsey Greats, a selection of profiles on the most prolific and influential islanders of the 20th century.
The Castel Primary and Boys Grammar educated writer does not rule out further releases and would dearly love to find the time to pen a definitive history of growing in Guernsey, an industry so many of his close family were involved.
Married to Julie for 44 years, he has two grown up children, Emma, one of the island ‘s leading physiotherapists and Michael, production editor at the Guernsey Press when not out running.
