With just weeks to go until the Saffery Rotary Walk 2025, anticipation is mounting as volunteers came together on Wednesday 23 April for the first Packing Night of the year.
Held at St James, this essential pre-Walk event saw dedicated teams from Saffery Trust and the Island’s two Rotary Clubs assembling ‘Welcome Pack’ envelopes for registered walkers, ensuring that participants have everything they need ahead of the big day on Saturday 7 June 2025.
More than 800 walker packs were carefully prepared, each containing key information and the event’s signature orange T-shirts. These will now be dispatched to those already signed up, with additional mailings scheduled throughout May for those who register in the coming weeks.
Walkers will be arriving from across the world this year, including South Africa, Denmark, and Hungary, with 1 in 8 Welcome Packs heading to UK-based participants. So many of the packs will be finding their way to the evening post plane.
Lisa Vizia, Director at Saffery Trust, said: “Every year, we field a team from Saffery Trust to work alongside the Rotary volunteers in preparing these packs. It’s an important part of the process, ensuring that every walker feels ready and excited for the challenge ahead.”
Lisa continued: “It’s a privilege to support this event - not just financially, but by volunteering our time at each stage of the journey. The Walk is all about community, and Packing Night is a wonderful example of that spirit in action.”
Walk Chairman, Simon Milsted, added: “Packing Night is a key milestone in the Walk’s preparations, and it’s always inspiring to see Saffery Trust, Guernsey Post and Rotarians working together so seamlessly. The dedication of all involved is a testament to the incredible community spirit that defines the Saffery Rotary Walk.”
Simon continued: “A huge thank you to the Posties at Guernsey Post, whose job it now is to deliver the Welcome Packs, and to St James for generously providing the venue for this important evening’s work.”
