Dear members
Well, the time has come to put the "Sports" back into Sports and Social!
For those of you who attended the lunchtime talk from Paul Wheatley (or read my follow up email) regarding Walking Football in Guernsey and his subsequent challenge to members to attend a session, I am delighted to confirm that I have finally booked a date for this to happen. The response from my email at that time asking members to indicate if they were interested in attending was very encouraging indeed with 25 members saying yes they were keen! So based on that I have organised the following:-
Date Wednesday 13th April
Venue KGV playing fields
Time 12.00 - 1.00 (for walking football)
1.00 - 2.00 (for buffet lunch)
People can turn up any time after 11.30 to get changed etc, so we can start dead on 12.00.There are changing rooms available.
Dress code - Trainers and then basically whatever you are comfortable in to do a bit of exercise, Shorts, jeans, tracksuit, joggers, gardening trousers, tee shirt, whatever you like, it's not a fashion show!
Parking - there is plenty on the site
For those members who want to come along, but do want to take part in the walking football, you can still come for the buffet lunch at 1.00, but i would suggest you get there early to enjoy and watch what is happening.
Cost - we are charging our usual lunchtime price of £15.00 per head whether you do the football or not. This simply covers a small charge for the buffet, all the coaches etc are free and whatever money is over goes to the walking football charity.
If you wish to attend please let me as soon as possible, stating that you are coming for the football (which includes the lu lunch) or simply for the lunch on ndorey10@gmail.com
THERE WILL BE NO CLUB LUNCH AT THE HOTEL THAT DAY
If you are coming, please pay your £15.00 direct to the club via
Rotary Club of Guernsey
Acc No - 41834711
Sort - 40-22-25
Ref - Please insert your name and Football
This will be a fun event and only as strenuous as you want it. Walking football was devised as a sport to be as inclusive as possible for people of all levels of fitness and ability, recovering from operations, heart attacks and debilitating illnesses.
The hour will involve warm up exercises, some fun warm up ball games and then some walking football in small groups and then perhaps a full team session, but ALL at your pace.
I will go through all this again at my next club meeting which will be next week as I am in isolation at the moment having tested positive for COVID so cannot attend Wednesday!
In the meantime start getting your names on the list.
By the way, Walking Football people will be taking pictures and possibly a video to help advertise the sport within their association, by signing up, you are agreeing to let pictures of you go public and also on our web site. Still plenty of time to get your hair cut!
Best regards
Nigel (Ronaldo) Dorey
