At our regular meetings we toast the members of a Rotary club in another part of the world. The toast reminds us of the international nature of Rotary and that clubs like ours are active and doing good on every continent.
“From all of us here to all of you there. From beautiful Guernsey, a Rotarian Cheer!”

Hello Simon, Thank you so much for your email and what an inspiring idea. We do have associations with other clubs around the World and their members have joined our regular weekly meetings on the odd occasion – especially now that we can only Zoom in to the meeting. It does have some silver linings. I will be informing the club at our meeting next Tuesday that I have received this email from you and will be raising the suggestion that we follow suit. Any idea that reminds us of our history and International connections is a good one in my mind. Thanks again and kind regards, John Stephenson PHF, Secretary. |

Hi Rod, What a coincidence. Last night at our Rotary Club of Kloof meeting, we raised a glass and drank a toast to your club. I told our members about your contact with SA and having visited our club, and a bit about your club and also how well SA Virologist Nicola Brink has done. I believe she has received an award recently. So thanks for the toast. Stay well. Warm regards, Reg Courtney, President. |

Thank you for letting us know about your proposal to toast our club at your meeting this evening. In the midst of various difficulties currently prevailing it is warming to receive a message which illustrates the friend ship of Rotary. On behalf of our Club I wish you good fortune for the coming festive season and for 2021. Yours in Rotary, Hugh A. MacKay, President |

Many thanks for your recent email informing us that your Club had given a toast to our Club at your meeting on 6 January. We were delighted to be able to announce this at our meeting on 13 January and we duly reciprocated! We discovered from our membership that a number of them had flown out to Guernsey to visit you and that one of our founder (I think) members had moved to the island, establishing a connection between our two Clubs. Personally, I have very fond memories of Guernsey which I have visited on a number of occasions. First, as a boy scout, my group regularly had our summer camp at a farm at Pleinmont. The story there was that the farmer had been evacuated to our home town (Accrington) during the Second World War and was kind enough to offer us the privilege of camping on his land as a ‘thank you’. We had some truly memorable holidays walking the coast paths and playing in the gun towers in the dark. So much was I enchanted by Guernsey that I subsequently went with a group of sixth form friends and then, after I married, with my wife. Guernsey holds a very special place in my memory and I hope I shall have the opportunity to visit the island again. So, as this year’s President of Bristol Breakfast, I am especially glad to be able to send best wishes to you and your club. John Whittaker, President, Bristol Breakfast Rotary Club |

I was the pilot that flew a group of us to your club many years ago. The member who moved to Guernsey was Norman Dewey. I heard that he had been quite poorly and he must be elderly if he’s still alive. Also I know Nick Brown who is/was a member. Regards, Julian Telling. |

How wonderful that our fellow Rotarians in Guernsey thought of us and raised a glass! We returned the gesture with much friendship today and were delighted to do so. This is a great idea and we are going to adopt it so thank you most sincerely. Yours in Rotary, warm wishes Norma Johnston, President Weston Rotary on behalf of all members of the club. |

Many thanks for your message and greetings from Rotary in Cheadle & District. I must confess that I haven't been to Guernsey although some five years ago I was with a group of Rotary yachters and flyers who enjoyed a long weekend hosted by Rotarians in St Helier, Jersey. Who knows - when we get back to be able to travel again we might make it to Guernsey? Best wishes to everyone in the Rotary Club of Guernsey. Yours in Rotary Service, Patrick Tyrrell, Secretary, Rotary Cheadle & District |

Hi Simon, Thanks for your email. The email arrived just in time for our zoom meeting yesterday. Such good timing! It was a pleasure to read it out to our assembled Club at the conclusion of our meeting. Members were delighted to have received your kind and timely greetings. They have asked me to thank you sincerely for your thoughtful actions. It all makes the final toast 'Rotary and Peace the World over' all the more relevant. Thanks again. Clint Elliott. Secretary - Saddleworth Rotary Club. |

On behalf of the Rotary Club of St Andrews we are humbled to receive a toast of a "Rotary Cheer" from beautiful Guernsey. Please thank all your members for their kind greetings and toast. We give you and your members our very best wishes and hope we will see some of you in St Andrews again before long. Your golfing members would be very welcome next June to our International Rotary Golf Fellowship Tournament as seen on our web site. We also invite any of your members to join our zoom meeting this Wednesday at 1pm when we will have a presentation by a former St Andrews student who is now a Rotarian in Pennsylvania. Her presentation "Hop on the Bus" is promoted on Rotary International web site as well as our own. The link for Wednesday's meeting is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85804188096?pwd=MDBEUHFZMGcxaGpPbUp4SkU4RTJPUT09. Just join in the meeting if any of your members are free. Zoom meetings for this past year has enabled us to use 10 former students from our Rotaract Club to give presentations from India, US, Canada, Crete and Turkey. We pinched a minister of the Church of Scotland from Guernsey a few years ago. Graeme Beebee is minister of St Leonards church where many of our Rotary members worship. As you say Rotary is all about networking locally and internationally. Again please pass on our "Cheers" to all your members. As incoming president for this coming year my slogan is 2 words -----"Have Fun". Colin Mitchell. |

Thank you so much for your email to our club informing us of you displaying our banner at one of your meetings. It is always good to hear from other clubs especially those across the seas! What a lovely tradition to toast members of other Rotary clubs in other parts of the world. Indeed it reminds us of our international involvement. Please convey our greetings and best wishes to your members from Farnborough. Kind regards, President Katy (Harris) |

Thank you so much for the greetings from Guernsey, and please pass on our greetings to your members, from what today is a wet and windy Paignton. We are unable to meet as a Rotary Club at the moment because of the current restrictions, but are hopeful for the end of July. Our Handover will take place next Thursday 1st July when I will be taking over as President from my husband who, has carried us through the the pandemic and been in the ‘hot seat’ for two years. Fingers crossed the weather will improve as this will be happening outside on the beach……or we may end up with some very soggy Rotarians! We have a lot of plans for when we can finally meet as a Rotary Club again and I think we will adopt your ‘tradition’ and resurrect the flags we have been presented with in the past and remember those RCs with a toast at out meetings. We wish you all well in your future endeavours and who knows in the future we may all meet, as one of our ideas is for our RC to socialise by taking trips together. Kind regards, YiRF, Sue Kirkham, Rotary Paignton, President Elect. |

Greetings from Rossendale Rotary Club. Many thanks for letting past president John know about the toast you raised to us the other week. We are getting back together, after keeping going on Zoom for 15 months. Last Weds 25/08 was the second meeting, and I have been asked to return greetings to you and your president. Rossendale is now in its 87th year, a few years younger than yourselves, but by now, well established in the community. Kind Regards, David Walmsley, Secretary. |

Greetings and appreciation from the Rotary Club of Saxmundham & District for toasting our Club at a recent meeting. One of our former members, now at the Framlingham Club has a son and family living on the island and is a frequent visitor and I enjoyed a very pleasant lunchtime with you a few year's back when we holidayed at The Hotel De Havelet, a favoured location for our trips to Guernsey in the 80s and 90s. Unfortunately we haven't been able to return since 2019 but look forward to enjoying future breaks on Guernsey and meeting with you again. I will convey your Club's greetings when we meet this evening. Our very best wishes to all your members on your beautiful Island. Jon James, Secretary: Saxmundham & District Rotary Club. |

Many thanks for your email .. and the toast to the health of The Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy. The Club is in good spirits but a trifle "bruised" due to Covid. However we are celebrating our Centenary year and it has been an interesting exercise in ploughing through the history of our club. None of our members has owned up to visiting your club. I think your "tradition" of toasting clubs is a great idea. Sadly we lost a couple of hundred banners that had been collected over the years, this was due to over zealous hotel staff. Best wishes to your President and your club members from our President Ken and the members of The Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy. Many thanks, Tony Payne,Hon. Secretary - The Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy. |

Kia ora Simon, Thank you for your lovely email and the 05 July toast to our club. My compliments on your club’s toasting tradition and for having such an outstanding website. The Rotary Club of Waipapa wishes the Rotary Club of Guernsey a very happy centenary anniversary. Yours in Rotary, Jack (Jack Armstrong, President). |

Dear Simon, Many thanks for your email sent to our immediate past president. What a nice thing to do. We count ourselves fortunate to be included in such a worldwide series of memories and toasts and something that is truly in the spirit of international friendship. I will pass on your greetings to the club members and we will be sure to toast your members at our next meeting. It was a shame that the proposed district conference in Guernsey never happened due to covid. I'm sure that many of us would have enjoyed renewing acquaintance with your beautiful island. With best regards to you and all of your members, Nigel Francis, President, Rotary Club of Bransgore and District. |
