Our speaker for the evening of Wednesday 31st March 2021 is the Rev. Dr David Coulter, CB OStJ,QHC , who will be speaking on the role of the  Royal Army Chaplain’s Department and it’s history together with anecdotes of his own service.

David studied economic and social history at Queens University, Belfast graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Continuing his studies he graduated from the University of St. Andrews with a Bachelor of Divinity degree and from Cranfield University with a Master of Defence Administration. Having undertaken postgraduate research at the University of Edinburgh he completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1998.

On 1st October 1979 David was commissioned into the Royal Irish Rangers and served until September 1985 when he resigned his full time commission. Service with the Territorial battalion followed until 2nd April 1989 when he was ordained into the Church of Scotland and the following day joined the Royal Army Chaplains Department. Apart from a  two year interlude in the early 1990s David served continuously until his retirement from the army on 17th April 2019. In 2014 David was appointed Chaplain General to Her Majesty’s Land Forces equivalent in rank to major general.

Following his retirement David returned to civilian ministry and since 2019 has served as minister of St. Andrews in the Grange. He is Chaplain to the Order of St. John Guernsey.

The Reverend David Coulter will be our Speaker at the Evening Meeting on Wednesday, 31st March, shortly before he and his wife Grace are leaving the Island. Some background information on David Coulter can be found on our website. As there is likely to be much interest in his presentation, I would be grateful if you could e-mail me to let me know if you will be attending the dinner and whether you are bringing a partner/guest, so that we can establish the final number and plan the most suitable seating arrangement with the Hotel. Please let me have your reply by Monday, 22nd March. 

Dinner and the presentation will be from 7.00 - 9.00 PM approximately,  but please arrive around 6.30 PM for Meet and Greet and drinks. The price of the meal will be our normal evening charge of £18.50 for a main course and dessert.  May I also remind you that due to road works access to the Havelet Hotel is likely be restricted from the seafront only.
