Our speaker at lunch will be Rev. Mike Keirle, the Dean of Jersey and formerly Rector of St Martins Church, here in Guernsey.
The International Sub-Committee has been considering overseas projects that it could work with, hopefully in collaboration with a Rotary Club in the area.
One of the projects that has been suggested and that we are now considering is the IcFEM, which is an indigenous Kenyan organisation based in Kimilili, Western Kenya with a mission of transforming rural communities through development and the innovative provision of holistic care in many different disciplines, such as medical care, agricultural development, education, youth and family work, relief and welfare, savings, enterprise and discipleship. The IcFEM aims at building people, especially in rural areas, both spiritually and practically to become self-supporting. It is run by Kenyans for Kenyans.
The IcFEM is not unknown in Guernsey and the St Martin’s Church has had a long association with it.
Mike’s
talk will be about the work that Guernsey has done, the effect of
Covid-19 on the community there and the continued work in the
communities.
His presentation, complete with photos will be by Zoom and members who are not able to attend the lunch will be welcome to join in, details will be forwarded to them.
