In previous years, this Walk was sponsored by ITEX, a local IT firm. However, Itex was taken over by C5Alliance, who no longer wished to be the main sponsor but did wish to continue to be involved. The Club is delighted that a new sponsor has come forward and the new sponsor is Saffery Champness, a local fiduciary services company.. Saffery Champness has supported the Walk for years by very enthusiastically sponsoring one of the checkpoints at Chouet. Saffery Champness is supplying not only financial support but staff and reception resources and storage space for equipment, as well as meeting room facilities, in a single-island deal which we anticipate will last for at least three years. The press release of 30th. January announcing this and giving more details about Saffery Champness can be found HERE.
The Walk will be known as the Saffery Champness-Rotary Walk. One development is that Safferys will be setting up an extra refreshment point opposite their offices on Les Banques, about 1 mile from the Finish line.
Press coverage to date has been good. Trish Grover (a Walk Committee member and professional publicist) is working with Saffery's PR person (Rachel Parrott) and their PR agents Orchard.
Charities are being advised to apply for funding via Association of Guernsey Charities and Guernsey Community Foundation. Forms can also be obtained at the offices of Saffery Champness or by e-mailing guernseyrotarywalk@gmail.com or by downloading HERE. Forms may be returned to the e-mail address or by hand or post to the offices of Saffery Champness PO Box 141, La Tonnelle House, Les Banques, . This process is considerably later than is usual but applicants can rest assured that the same process of selection will be followed.
C5Alliance (who took over ITEX) are continuing to provide sponsorship via IT assistance. Currently they are working on the website, which is now available in a fledgling form on scrwalk.org.gg and can be used by aspiring walkers to register. registration commenced on 21st. February.
Working in conjunction with C5Alliance and the Jersey Walk Committee, we hope this year to be trialling an electronic registration/tracking system, in parallel with our usual paper-based system. The electronic system has the potential to provide more information directly to walkers, to save volunteers a lot of work and to provide more management information, which will help us develop and improve the Walk for the future.
The Walk this year takes place on June 7th.
