Sunday 23rd June was the date of our handover picnic, which was held at Delancey Park, Northern Bowling Club.
What started out as a dull day with a risk of rain turned to sunshine and although windy, was comfortably warm for everyone.
Our handover social event is always a light hearted affair and this was no exception. 38 members booked in for the event and within minutes of starting to bowl, even those who professed to have never bowled before began to get quite excited about their performance.
Although we started at 11.00, there was only time for most teams (3 members per team) to play two matches. This was in no part down to any indication of poor play, but more to do with talking (and laughing) rather than bowling!
The bowling was followed by the picnic lunch and a little drinking with all participants sitting on the sheltered side of the green and soaking up the sun. The picnic ended with the cutting of a "handover cake" and a thank you speech from Dave Mortimer, our outgoing President. Nigel Dorey, our incoming President replied on behalf of the club and then presented Dave with an inscribed cut glass bowl.
As well as club members and partners, we were also pleased to welcome our guests from the other island Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs; Ruth Abernethy, Pamela Cann and Adrian, John Foley and Alison and Richard Whitford and Paddy.
Our thanks go to Angela and Ted Bartie of the Northern Bowling Club, for letting us use their fabulous facility and helping set it up for the day.
