ROTARY YOUNG CHEF OF THE YEAR 2011 ALDERNEY TAKE THE TITLE FOR SECOND TIME
The final of the Bailiwick Rotary Young Chef of The Year took place yesterday at the COFE. 13 students participated in the final each one having to prepare and cook within 2 hours, a healthy 3 course meal for under £7.50 per head. This is the sixth year of the very successful competition.
"The standard of cooking and presentation was once again excellent" said Nigel Dorey of the Guernsey Rotary Club. "When you consider the ages of these students it is quite amazing what they can produce in such a short time and under the pressure of a competition".
The 3 judges, Steve Scuffle, Jim Delbridge and Tobin Cook certainly had their work cut out in deciding a winner. "With the standard being so high it made our job very difficult indeed", commented Steve Scuffle, senior judge, "but we had to make a decision and the eventual winner was Seanchan Ollivier from St Anne's School in Alderney, with the runner up being Honor De Garis from Blanchelande school Both winner and runner up will now go forward to represent the island in the District finals, in Eastleigh in early February 2012
Other winners on the night were:
Harry Wood, St Annes School - GASP trophy for Tastiest Dish.
Jenna Pierce, Les Beaucamps -Whineandine trophy for Health & Hygiene
Olivia Venosa, Grammer Craft Guild of Chefs trophy for Kitchen craft
"Once again we have to thank our sponsors", added Nigel, "without the support of The Co-op, Industrial & Leisure Clothing, and Aurigny Airlines, we would simply not be able to run the competition".
