The Ukraine Independence Day celebrations held on 24th August at Malvern Rugby Club provided fun and entertainment for all ages. There were performances of patriotic songs, videos showing the beauty of Ukraine, as well as some of the devastation caused by Russia’s invasion and speeches to commemorate the occasion.
After opening remarks from representatives of the local Ukrainian community as well as Marilyn Birks, the Mayor of Malvern, and Keith Spencer, President of the Malvern Rotary Club, many of those present joined in the experience of pancake racing organised by the Rotary Club.
Prizes were awarded in all categories and it was obviously a very enjoyable experience for the participants and spectators.
Members of Malvern Inner Wheel also made an impact. As well as helping to marshal the course they sold cakes, scones and other items.
A raffle, organised by Rotarian, Julie MacLusky, raised £167 and the proceeds will fund further supplies of baby milk formula to be delivered nursing mothers in the Ukraine.
