A Falconry Fiesta

A wonderful experience with Wye Valley Falconry

We recently had a fantastic social outing when some of our members were treated to a falconry display in a very scenic location near Pembridge with Wye Valley Falconry. It was a wonderful opportunity to get up close and personal with some amazingly beautiful birds and learn all about them from the very knowledgeable Luke Mammatt.

Chester the Harris Hawk was quite stunning, members took turns as he flew back and forth to their glove giving them a fabulous view of his skills.

Members were also introduced to Aero a Gyr X Saker Falcon who is larger than other falcons, predominately popular in the Middle East. This pretty agile bird showed off her hunting skills and kept Luke very busy.

Elsa the long eared Owl appeared for a short while to entertain and educate us about her species. Apparently they get their names from the tufts on their heads despite the fact that the tufts are simply feathers.

Lastly the group were treated to a lovely surprise as Luke unveiled his latest addition to the team, a baby barn owl called Crystal. Being only 9 weeks old her flying skills were non existent but she had charm in abundance and big beautiful mesmerising eyes.

The members had a brilliant morning with Luke and would highly recommend a falconry experience in beautiful Herefordshire.
