Some of our members recently took a trip to EnviRecover in Worcestershire to find out what goes on behind the scenes with our waste. It was an interesting, educational and fun visit which all of the members enjoyed.
Who are EnviRecover?
EnviRecover is situated on Hartlebury Trading Estate, just outside Kidderminster, and was formally opened in May 2017 by HRH the Duke of Gloucester. It was built as part of the Waste Disposal Contract with Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire Council, to deal more effectively with the residual waste from the two counties, after recycling and composting.
The EnviRecover EfW facility is operated by Severn Waste Services and Mercia Waste Management, which is jointly owned by FCC Environment and Urbaser Ltd. The facility processes residual domestic and commercial waste from Worcestershire and Herefordshire and generates electricity.
The facility has a permitted capacity to process up to 230,000 tonnes per year, significantly contributing to huge savings on landfill tax and the future need for space.
FCC Environment is one of the UK’s leading waste and resource management companies. Their approach is to minimise the amount of waste that ends up in landfill by transforming it into valuable resources wherever possible.
