The event will again feature the running element at Deer Park School, Cirencester in the afternoon followed by the swimming at Cirencester Leisure Centre, from 6pm.
Organiser Rotarian Diane Jameson said, “Over 200 enthusiastic youngsters have participated in the past two years. We expect that many will return and hope that even more will try out this event for the first time. We encourage all young people to participate as their experience can trigger a life-long interest in an active lifestyle.”
Age categories range from under-10 to under-14 years and distances vary accordingly. There is also a Fun Event for the younger children. Every entrant receives a participation medal and further awards are made to the fastest runner and swimmer in each age group and for team achievements. Individual results are also collated by Pentathlon GB and the best qualify for Regional and National Championships.
Diane Jameson explained, “Several of our previous competitors went on to the national finals and Henry Sheffield, who won our under-10 event in 2015, in his first ever biathlon, went on to win the National Schools event and Pentathlon GB event that year and then repeated his success in 2016.”
Full details of the age groups, event distances, cost of entry and how to apply can be obtained from the Cirencester Rotary Club website at www.cirencester-rotary.org.uk . Any specific queries can be directed to Diane Jameson (djameson34@talktalk.net ) or Andy Kerr (andy@acretdl.com).
More detail of the event:
Age is at the 31st December 2017 for u10; u11; u12s who all run 800m and swim 50m. Those u13 and u14 years run 1600m and swim 1600m. Times are scored in each discipline and added to obtain winners. The run at Deer Park School takes place in the afternoon and the swim is at Cirencester Leisure Centre from 6.00 pm. Volunteers on the day in either or both events will be welcome.
Entry fee is £10 and applications open on-line from mid- July and close on the 18th September via www.PentathlonGB.org. Late entries are not accepted: a reminder in your diary will avoid disappointment.
Last year we had a request from families with younger siblings for us to organise a shorter Fun Event. We accepted entries from u10 years to run 400m and swim 50m. The fee was £8.00 and we gave them a participation medal but no access to a trophy. Entries were accepted on the day and NOT through Pentathlon GB who do not recognise this age group. Over 20 took part and enjoyed the experience so we plan to offer the opportunity to compete in the shorter event again this year.
Please pass on this information to any that you think will be interested in participating. If you can display a poster please let us know. If you have any queries Andy Kerr (andy@acretdl.com) or Diane Jameson (djameson34@talktalk.net) will get back to you as soon as possible.
