Cirencester Rotary Club were very pleased to host this year's local Rotary Young Chef Competition at Deer Park School on Friday 2nd December. The competition is promoted nationally by Rotary to develop cookery and organisational skills in young people.

The two local finalists were Finn Justice and Jo Towning, both from Deer Park School. The standard of cooking and quality of the food was exceptional and guest judge Ronnie Bonetti, food Director of The Lucky Onion Group who own The Wild Duck at Ewen, was fulsome in his praise of their work.

Both finalists put a great deal of thought and effort into their menus. They worked well under the pressure of constant monitoring and occasional discussion of their content and technique along with the time pressure of an overall two-hour limit. Finn Justice was the winner on the day and will now go on to the District final early in the New Year.

Local Rotarian Mark Wilton said, “This annual competition is a great opportunity to help develop the skills and talents of young people. Our congratulations go to both finalists and I want to thank our judge Ronnie Bonetti of The Lucky Onion, Louise Parker Food Technology teacher for her support and Deer Park School for the use of their facilities."
