Youngsters brave the storm
Around 80 local youngsters (aged under 14) braved heavy rain to compete in the annual Cirencester Rotary Junior Biathlon, with running staged at Deer Park School and swimming at the town Leisure Centre. One competitor from the 2015 event went on to win a national title and so this year’s event attracted both serious and ‘fun’ competitors across the range of age-groups, from under 10 to under 14.
Rotary member and event co-organiser Diane Jameson said, “We were pleased that so many children and their families turned out to participate and provide support. Despite the showers, they all showed great determination and genuinely enjoyed both disciplines of the event.”
Every child who completed both elements received a medal and there were prizes for best times posted in each category, individually and as school groups.
Rotary President Brian Skarda said of the event, “The Junior Biathlon is now a fixture in our annual calendar and we are proud to support local children in improving their fitness and, for some, to have a chance to compete at a national level.”
