General Chit-Chat

Rotary club of Stirling meeting of 30th August 2019.

At our Friday meeting we had one visitor Adrienne Williams from the Sunrise club Ahuriri, Napier, New Zealand.  President Sandy Farquharson brought us up to date on some recent changes. We had been due to take part in walking the marches on 14th September, but this has been postponed till 16th May 2020. Colin Bayes gave us details of this wear's Gavel competition, now completely changed with all teams competing on the same night, on this occasion hosted by Stirling Rotary club. Similarly, it has been proposed to alter the timing of the primary school quiz now to be held four weeks earlier. Unfortunately, this will cause problems for the schools competing in terms of the school year, and this has been pointed out to the organisers. We were very pleased to hear that Mike Queen has agreed to take over the organising of the AM/AM golf. Our next meeting, 5th September, will be the first of our monthly Thursday evening meetings, and on this occasion the speaker will be Kev Mitchell who was team leader of the Ochil Mountain rescue for 10 years, now VC of Scottish Mountain Rescue.  Our visitor Adrienne told us about her own Rotary club, Ahuriri Sunrise which meets at 6.45 until 8 am. Ahuriri Sunrise is one of four clubs in Napier, it's 35 members having an average age of 26, and is clearly informal and very active in the community. We were all duly impressed!

Our next meeting Thursday 5th September 6.30 for7 pm. No meeting on Friday 6th. Speaker's host Malcolm Cordwell Smith, Visitor's host Crawford Gordon. For more info www.stirling.rotary1010.org
