President Alan Rankin welcomed our visitors, Peter Haywood, guest of Frank Kelly and Rotarian Douglas Gilmour from the Auchterarder club. John Rankin now has a date for our outing to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Wed 12th October 2016, and Colin Bayes has again entered the club for the Gavel competition and will be looking for participants. Douglas Gilmour from the Auchterarder club is looking for our support for a charity concert at Perth concert hall on Sat 10th September at which the winning young musicians from past year's concerts will perform.
Our speaker Rotarian Sandy Leven treated us to an amusing illustrated account of his life, before and since retirement. Always an enthusiast, Sandy was interested in gardening from a young age, and remains involved with the rock garden club at a local and national level. In his youth he lived in Falkland and retains his interest in palaces and castles, especially their gardens. His illustrations from Scotland and around the world were of the usual high standard, as was his light-hearted delivery. Sandy has a gift of noticing random amusing details. As well as more long lies in the morning, retirement has allowed him to travel more, take on even more interests, read a lot and indulge in his love of supermarket shopping.
The vote of thanks was given by Stewart Wilson.
Next meeting, Speaker's host Fay McPherson, Visitor's host Ian Milton. www.stirling.rotary1010.org
