Stirling Rotary at Stirling Station

Rotarians on the Right Track
Over the past year members of the Rotary Club of Stirling have settled into the role of Railway Station Adopters.
Last week saw the arrival of the new barrel train on Platform 2.  This large blue train is made from old whisky barrels and ours is the first of ScotRails barrel trains sit above platform level. Balanced  high on its plinth of sleepers and wooden rails it is a novel way of greeting visitors and saying with flowers, Welcome to Stirling! Planted with red, white and blue hydrangeas and petunias it looks fabulous. Scotrail staff comment that the new Rotary Train is the talk of the station! The barrel train   can be viewed from the stations south car park and from the new pedestrian bridge to Riverside.
Visitors and commuters comment favourably on the tubs of flowers and new floral beds sited around the Railway Station.  Last year as a start ScotRail provided a small barrel train at the north end of Platform 2. During the past year the planting schemes have expanded and there are flowers on all platforms.  Architecturally our station is one of the finest in Scotland and this has influenced the choice of planters and plants. The largest planters were commission from Tracks landscaping of Dunblane.
Each week the Rotarians tend and water the more than 50 tubs of flowers as well as eleven large planted flower beds in the station. Caring for the railway station is one way that Stirlings Rotarians show that they care about the city. It is part of what Rotary does locally. Pride in the railway station reflects pride in our community.
