On Thursday, 9th April, District 1260 officers visited the Rotary Club of Luton to present the District’s comprehensive portfolio of Youth Competitions and development programs. Assistant Governor and Youth Team Leader Claudio Duran, accompanied by District Membership Lead Amanda Joseph, addressed the club regarding the vital role Rotary plays in supporting the next generation.
The presentation highlighted the diverse range of competitions available to young people, including categories for Young Writers, Young Chef, Youth Speaks Young Musicians, Photographers, and Artists. The primary objective of these programs is to provide a platform for young individuals to achieve their potential and maintain a sense of purpose.
Claudio Duran provided a passionate overview of how these initiatives serve as a critical intervention. Without such structured support and engagement, many young people face significant challenges after the age of 16, which can contribute to broader social issues and mental health struggles. By providing opportunities for achievement and recognition, Rotary offers a constructive path forward.
The session also featured video presentations of District Youth Leadership courses. these programs focus on essential life skills such as:
Effective communication
Collaborative teamwork
Creative problem-solving
A significant portion of the discussion focused on public awareness. It was noted that many participants are often unaware of Rotary’s mission until they engage with these programs. To bridge this gap, the District and the Rotary Club of Luton discussed strategies for increasing the presence of Interact clubs in schools and Rotaract at universities.
Furthermore, the "Showcase Luton" on Saturday 18th April 9:30-3pm at Newlands Church formerly Wigmores initiative was identified as a key opportunity for the public to meet members, learn about global missions like End Polio Now, and discover how to become involved in local service.
District 1260 extends its gratitude to the Rotary Club of Luton for their hospitality and their ongoing dedication to community service and youth advocacy.
