Twilight

Tue, Aug 18th 2015 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Henley Town Clerk Mike Kennedy was inducted as a member of Henley Rotary Club at their twilight meeting on Tuesday. At the invitation of the president, John Grout, the informal welcoming ceremony was carried out by immediate past president Barry Prior, in whose year Mr Kennedy had first attended as a visitor.

In acknowledging his membership, Rotarian Kennedy thanked everyone for making him so welcome at the meetings he had attended and promised to do his best to assist the club as a member of the community service committee. He said that he was 60 this year and this had co-incided in his mind with the 60th anniversary of the Henley club.
His previous involvement with Rotary had been when, serving as town clerk of Chesham, he was accorded honorary membership for one year of the local club in his capacity as chairman of Chesham Round Table. He was 38 at the time and felt that if he had gone on to formally join the movement then, it would have brought the average age down rather sharply!
Your bit about Stefan, Jeni, Henley Bridge and Mark Harling here?
In the absence of the advertised speaker, club secretary Philip Fletcher showed two or three short films about Rotary in general for the information of the new member and the second newest member, Peter Thomson, who had been inducted in June.
International chairman Maria Bunina appealed for lots for the charity auction which the club will be holding at Henley Golf Club on September 29.
