120 years of Rotary, and 80 years of Rotary Dunstable!
Rotary was formed in Chicago on 23rd February 1905, and exactly 120 years later we gathered to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Rotary Dunstable receiving their Charter.
President Alan welcomed The High Sheriff of Bedfordshire Rtn Bav Shah, and District Governor Jeremy Wyman, members of Rotary clubs of Chesham Valley, Dunstable Downs, Luton North, Luton Someries, Owerri Central (Nigeria), Sydney Harbour Darling (Australia), and Inner Wheel.
Presentations were made to guests from Dunstable Town Football Club, Hospice at Home Volunteers, Luton & Dunstable Hospital, and Great Ormond St Hospital.
Rotarian Trevor Rix was honoured for his exemplary service to Rotary, joining in 1975 Trevor has served as Club President, Club Secretary and multiple other roles in his 50 years in Rotary. He was presented with a special award by DG Jeremy, and a Paul Harris Fellowship with double sapphire (PHF+2).
The High Sheriff of Bedfordshire Bav Shah thanked all the members for their service to the community, and for the ongoing support of The Rotary Foundation.
District Governor Jeremy gave an update from his attendance at the Rotary International Assembly in Florida USA, where it was confirmed we are now the closest we have ever been to eradicating Polio from the world, a promise we made to the children of the world. We really are #People of Action.
