The Rotary Dictionary 4 Life project started some 20 years ago with Rotary clubs throughout the UK working with Usborne, the publishers of the dictionaries, to donate illustrated dictionaries to local primary school children. The aim is to give every child in Year 4 or 5 their own dictionary to help improve their literacy and to learn how to look up and check facts.

The Rotary Club of Aylesbury was delighted to be able to participate in this project in 2025, purchasing sufficient books so that every Year 5 pupil attending Thomas Hickman, Oak Green and Elmhurst schools were given their own dictionaries.

Ms Melanie Thomas at Elmhurst School reported that the children were delighted to receive the books and have put them to good use.

The remaining dictionaries were donated to Ashmead school to use in the classroom and be added to their school library.

The Club hopes to continue to support this very worthwhile project.
