In an interesting talk Ralph outlined the development of the Metropolitan Railway and its expansion out of London.

Excess land acquired during the expansion was used for the construction of housing along the route thereby creating a market for its train services. T

he housing estates were aimed at the middle classes and were marketed as being in Metro Land.
