.Amersham Rotary’s 31st Chiltern Charity Golf classic is a great success
71 golfers of all abilities signed up for our 31stChiltern Charity Golf Classic at Harewood Downs Golf Club on Thursday 7thSeptember.
This annual event was sponsored by Silverson Shear Mixers, and Cansdales Chartered Accountants, and is run by Amersham Rotary Club. It is a major fund raiser for us enabling the club to support both local and international charities. This year the main beneficiary of the event is The Pepper Foundation, providing funding for the hospice at home children’s nursing team covering the wider Chilterns area.
Thursday day dawned bright and sunny as some 50 players teed off for the two morning nine hole “stableford” competitions. As the morning drew on, the clouds gathered but even a short sharp shower didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of those out on the course.
The winners of the two hard fought morning events were Richard Evans off the 1st tee, and John Harbour off the 10thtee.
During a well-earned lunch, the morning starters were joined by the rest of the field for the main event, the Chiltern Charity Golf Classic Trophy, a pairs competition over 18 holes. Although cloudy with an increasing wind, the rain held off and the players enjoyed a dry but challenging afternoon of competitive golf around Harewood Downs’ picturesque course.
The evening presentation dinner was attended by 90 guests and the excitement mounted as the time to announce the winners approached.
The ladies competition was won by Rosie Hunt and Pauline French representing the Amersham Rotary Club – well done ladies!
The overall winners of the Charity Golf Classic Trophy with a magnificent 48 points were Neil Hayman and Peter Kavanagh representing the major sponsors of the competition, Silverson High Shear Mixers based in Chesham.
The prizes and trophy were presented by Harold Rothman, CEO of Silverson.
It is expected that the day will have raised over £8000 to support The Pepper children’s Hospice at Home nurses and for other Rotary supported charities.
