This afternoon at Dr Challoner's High School, Little Chalfont, ten young musicians chosen by Rotary Clubs in Amersham, Milton Keynes, Milton Keynes Grand Union, St Albans, Newport Pagnell, Luton Someries, Stevenage and Wolverton and Stony Stratford enthralled an audience of Rotarians and supporters with a feast of music.
Our three adjudicators, Elaine Brown, Christopher Grant and Richard Sisson, praised all the young competitors for their varied and engaging performances and had to make a very difficult decision in choosing a winner and runner-up to go into the Regional Competition at Dr Challoner's on Sunday 24th March.
After much deliberation, they awarded first prize in the instrumental section to James Westlake representing Newport Pagnell. James performed two flute pieces, by John Rutter and Gabriel Faure. The runner-up was Joseph Hyde, pianist, representing Milton Keynes, who played pieces by Bach and Szymanowski.
Winner of the vocal section was Francesca Stevens, representing Wolverton and Stony Stratford, singing arias by Purcell, Wolf and Pucinni. Runner-up was Jochebel MacCarthy representing Stevenage, who performed a Rhianna song, and
