Dave Foster describes his marathon walk to Rotary members

Dave Foster, Rotarian, and a former resident of Watton now living in the Vale of Evesham, came along to the Rotary Club in April 2026 to tell us about his forthcoming walk to raise funds for the charity Shelterbox. Under the title of Shelterboots, the walk will take him from Lands End to the Scottish border, about 4 miles north of Berwick on Tweed.

He was a great supporter of our member Paul Weatherill's Shelterboat voyages on the river Avon and river Thames in recent years in support of Shelterbox. Paul is returning the favour by offering support to Dave on his huge undertaking. Dave will also be supported by Rotary Clubs along the route, with meals and accommodation.

Dave told us that he has has set himself an ambitious target of raising £20,000 for Shelterbox with this walk, and said he has already raised £6,000 towards that total, with 2 weeks still to go before he sets off. Shelterbox provides disaster relief to communities who have lost everything due to natural disasters (earthquakes, flooding etc) and also conflict. If Dave can reach his goal he will raise enough to provide 50 custom-built family tents, or 1,000 thermal blankets, for wherever disaster strikes next.

Anybody can donate to Dave's Shelterboots expedition via www.shelterboots.uk.
