We showcase Shelterbox at the Wayland Show

Watton Rotary Club took a stand at this year's Wayland Show to promote Rotary generally and Shelterbox in particular

The Rotary Club attended the Wayland Show 2025, taking the opportunity to showcase Shelterbox and our continued efforts to support the charity, which provides support to families who have lost everything due to conflict or natural disaster.

The Wayland Show is an agricultural show held every August in Watton, and dates back to 1460. Local farmers bring cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and other animals to show, there are displays of vintage tractors and vehicles, trade stands, horticulture and cooking competitions, a dog show, food outlets, and a full schedule of entertainment in the two rings, including horse riding and  gun dog displays, and the ever-popular Shetland Derby. It really is a very enjoyable day out, only made possible through the hard work of a small army of volunteers, led by a Show committee which includes Rotarian Paul Chubbock.

On our stand we were able to show a Shelterbox and its  contents, which include a tent for a family of uo to 10, cooking utensils, a stove, water purifier, blankets and many other items essential for survival in a disaster zone. We also brought our Shelterboat, that our member Paul Weatherill has sailed on 3 expeditions to raise funds for the Shelterbox Charity. We also brought along the raft that we raced at Ely Aquafest last month.

We were also delighted that Elaine Rodgers joined us on our stall. She is a long term supporter of Shelterbox, and makes beautiful cushions, aprons and other items which she sells to raise funds for the Charity.

Among the many visitors to our stand we were pleased to welcome Bharti Patel from Kings Lynn Priory Rotary Club, who was accompanied by a giant Asian Hornet, to raise awareness of the damage these insects can cause to local bee populations.
