We were delighted to support once again the Crucial Crew event at City College Norwich in July 2025. Rotarians Keith Thomas, Pam Baktis, and Roy Ivory spent the day at the College to help out  at the event, which was organised by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.

Aimed at children who are about to move to senior school, Crucial Crew gives them an insight into some of the dangers they need to be aware of during their developing years.

A day spent at Crucial Crew enables lots of different services and organisations, using interactive teaching methods, impart important information on how to stay  safe in various places and situations which children may encounter in day-to-day life. Pupils are separated into groups and move around the site visiting each partner organisation. The Rotary Club's role on the day is to ensure that all pupils move safely between the different rooms.

The children experience and participate in a range of realistic scenarios which may be potentially life threatening to raise their awareness of what they can do to increase their own and others' safety.

The scheme's realism is particularly appealing to the children. During the visit, they will have experienced a wide range of situations and been given the tools to get through them safely.

14 schools were involved during our day at City College, and 203 children attended. They had briefings from Healthy Child NHS, Norfolk Police, St John Ambulance, Health watch, Air ambulance, RNLI Coastguard and Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.
