We were proud to present our annual Young Citizen Awards at our Gala Day on 1st September 2024. Every year we look for exceptional young people making a difference to their community, and recognise them by showcasing their outstanding citizenship and rewarding them with a Certificate, trophy and gift voucher.
This year's winners were:
Daisy Reynolds, who was nominated by her mother Tracey, leader of Shipdham Spitfires Scout Group. Daisy gives huge amounts of her time in helping out with the beavers and wolf cubs, in addition to being a patrol leader with the scouts. She also takes an active role in fundraising activities, and as an ambassador for the group.
Lily-May Goddard-Kemp, who was nominated by Flight Lieutenant Alex Stapleton, RAFAC Officer Commanding 864 (Watton) Air Training Corps. Lily-May joined the Air Cadets 5 years ago and is already a Cadet Flight-Sergeant. She helps organise the weekly parade nights and is a qualified instructor for younger cadets. She has been Head Girl at Wayland Academy and has also shown great sporting prowess.
Henry Drury, who was nominated by Corporal of Horse Aidan Hall, Commanding Officer of Watton Army Cadets. At the age of 15, he has achieved the rank of Lance Corporal of Horse. He offers leadership and guidance to fellow cadets and has already taken a junior cadet Instructor course, and been recommended for a Senior Instructor course due to his excellent teaching skills. Like Lily-May, Henry has also shown great sporting talent.
Talon Buick, who was nominated by Ina Coubrough, Deputy Head of Wayland Academy. Talon gave a year of service to a charity shop in Diss, volunteering for Oxfam Charity, selling items to raise funds to help people in poverty. He has also completed an online cookery course so he could develop skills to cook for his foster family and friends, and is incredibly committed to his studies, staying regularly after school to complete extra maths with the Academy's Head of Mathematics.
