This year's Gala Day was designed as a fun family event, hosted once again by Broom Hall Country Hotel. It was our largest yet, with an estimated 200 or more visitors. There was a 'small pet' show, a classic car show, fundraising auction and raffle. We were also delighted to present this year;'s Young Citizen Awards to four community-spirited young people. For the first time we had two trade stands, for local firms Detail and Shine Valeting, and Salec Travel.
Father and son team Scott and Alan, who are World War 2 re-enactors, came along with a Jeep and various weapons and equipment from that period of history.
Throughout the afternoon musical entertainment was provided by the excellent Swing Tones duet, singing songs for all age groups to enjoy
The weather was kind to us, and some forty classic vehicles (modern and vintage) were displayed by their proud owners. Vehicles ranged from vintage tractors, through classic Minis and Morris Minors, to some rare US vehicles, including a very impressive Cadillac. After much deliberation, our judge Rotarian Ivan Chubbock awarded the trophy for best tractor to Charles Hewson, and the best car to the owner of an immaculately kept 1960's Rover 95. Both of these trophies were sponsored by Detail and Shine Valeting.
Rotarian Paul Weatherill conducted an auction of items donated by local businesses, Rotary members and Friends of Rotary. Lots ranged from rugs donated by Reads of Watton to meal vouchers for local hostelries, as well as tickets for events. Over £1200 was raised for our charitable work, for which we thank the generosity of all those who attended.
Young Citizen Award recipients were Lily-May Goddard-Kemp, Daisy Reynolds, Henry Drury and Talon Buick. The awards were sponsored by Shaun and Rebecca Yeoman of local firm Salec Travel.
