Watton Rotary held their annual Jazz Night on 22 March and over 100 jazz fans were entertained by East Anglia's premier jazz band Dixie Mix. This was the 24th time Dixie Mix have appeared at Queens Hall Watton.
Led by Simon Nelson on trumpet and vocals, the band now include 2 new members, Karl Wirrman on saxaphone and clarinet, and Maurizio Borgna on double bass.
They started with their usual opening number 'When the Saints go Marching in' and continued through the evening with well known tunes and some lesser known which they have recently added to their repertoire, generally from Duke Ellington, Kenny Ball and Chris Barber origins.
Jazz patrons, and Dixie Mix themselves, were fed at half time with our traditional ham or cheese rolls, with fruit to follow, and also the bar was open.
The evening raised around £800 which will be used by the Rotary Club for charitable purposes, both local and abroad.
We are already looking forward to welcoming Dixie Mix back to Queens Hall in 2025 for their silver anniversary.
