On one of the warmest days of June we enjoyed a jaunt on the Norfolk Broads, organised by Paul Weatherill. We were on board the Southern Comfort, a double-deck paddle boat operated by Mississippi River Boats Ltd on the Norfolk Broads.
The boat left Horning at 6 p.m. for a 3 hour cruise which took us as far as South Aylsham Broad and back again, all the time accompanied by a resident jazz band playing non-intrusive music.
For some of us, it was their first time on the Broads, and nobody was disappointed with our tranquil progress through some beautiful scenery, with no locks to negotiate, and very little engine noise. Occasionally we passed a busy riverside pub, but mostly we were able to watch abundant wildlife amid quiet rural areas. There was a well-stocked bar and comfortable seating on both decks, with plenty of room to move around.
It was a super outing, for which we are all grateful to Paul for organising.
