We are delighted to announce that Bethany Jeal, winner of our club's Young Environmentalist Award earlier this year, has now won the Rotary East Anglia competition for her age group. Bethany attended our club meeting with her mother on 25th May, where she was presented with the District Award by Assistant District Governor Richard Perkins.
The theme for our Young Environmentalist competition was 'Biodiversity' and Bethany initially entered into our club competition. Our judges were particularly impressed with both her and the runners up, as their work was a study on biodiversity at their school, Wayland Academy rather than biodiversity in a wider sense.
First prize for the club competition was awarded to Bethany Jeal for her well researched work, and the runner up was a team effort from Ruby Shortland and Owen Shipley.
We were delighted that all three were able to attend our awards evening on 9th March when certificates were handed over by the Rotary Club President Mike Gicquel.
Listening in to our awards evening via Zoom was the Rotary District Environmental chairman Keith Tovey, a Professor of Environmental Science at the University of East Anglia. He was particularly impressed with the standard of these entries, and recommended that they were both entered into the District competition, from which Bethany emerged the winner.
Her entry will now be forwarded to be judged in the National Competition, where of course competitors will be stronger, and we give Bethany our very best wishes for further success.
