Earthquake in Turkey / Syria

A few days after the terrible earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, Watton Rotary Club organised a collection by kind permission of Tesco in Watton. Our aim was to use funds raised to purchase Shelterboxes which can be used to support homeless families in the disaster zone.

A Shelterbox costs typically £600 and consists of a large, durable plastic box containing a 10 person family tent, waterproof sheets and thermal blankets, water carrier with water purification kits, solar lights, wood burning stove, cooking and eating utensils to assist a large family who are homeless.

The generous residents of Watton donated £900 in just half a day, and by adding to this sum from our own resources, we were able to purchase three Shelterboxes to be sent to Turkey and Syria.

Watton Rotary Club have historically responded to disasters around the world in a similar fashion, and since 2004 we have donated £30,000 to Shelterbox. We are proud of the generosity of the residents of Watton and the surrounding area in supporting our efforts
